Since winning the major tunnel-lining contract for Crossrail Farringdon, works have been steadily progressing. The contract, which is worth £1.2m, started late November ’14 and is now nearing completion by April 2016.
Described as Europe’s largest infrastructure project, nearly 21km of twin-bore rail tunnels will eventually be constructed for Crossrail beneath central London.
Works will include installing approximately 33,000m2 of Mapeplan TU S 20 membrane, including a fleece layer and protection sheet. The waterproof lining will be applied to the face of the primary concrete tunnel structure, constructed of sprayed concrete and finished with a regulating layer. On completion of the Mapei system, which includes water bar installation, re-injectable hoses, contact grouting points and reinforcement anchors, a secondary lining of cast/sprayed concrete will be installed.
